Nick Walker is laser-focused on reclaiming his spot among the elite as he prepares for the 2024 Mr. Olympia.
The bodybuilding world has been buzzing with his recent insights shared on the Mutant and the Mouth Podcast, where Nick Walker discussed his strategies for maximizing muscle growth, his thoughts on cheat meals, and his specific training preferences.
With less than 14 weeks until the contest’s 60th anniversary, Nick Walker‘s journey is both inspiring and instructive for aspiring bodybuilders.
The Road to Recovery and Redemption
The past year has been a tumultuous one for Nick Walker. A catastrophic hamstring and calf tear sidelined him, forcing him to watch from the sidelines as Derek Lunsford made history by becoming the sport’s first-ever two-division Mr. Olympia champion.
Confined to a wheelchair, Nick Walkerr’s resolve was tested, but his spirit remained unbroken.
Fully recovered now, Nick Walker showcased his determination and skill by defeating Martin Fitzwater at the 2024 New York Pro, earning his ticket back to the Mr. Olympia stage.

Maximizing Muscle Growth: Walker’s Philosophy
Nick Walker’s approach to muscle growth is both pragmatic and strategic.
He believes there is a limit to how much a body can grow before it starts to negatively impact the physique’s aesthetics.
“You can only get so big before things start to fuck up, you know?”
Nick Walker stated, emphasizing the importance of balance. Instead of focusing on sheer size, Nick Walker and his coach, Matt Jansen, prioritize refining specific areas to enhance his overall symmetry and flow.
Nick Walker’s ability to grow muscle is almost instantaneous, a genetic gift that many envy.
However, he and Jansen have adopted a cautious approach, avoiding extreme measures.
“I could probably be huge. Well, that’s the problem with me, well it’s not a problem, I guess it’s a good thing. I can grow instantly. Even for me, me and Matt are… not doing anything to the extreme. There’s just no need for it,” Walker explained.
This disciplined approach ensures that his muscle growth is sustainable and strategically targeted.
Cheat Meals: A Strategic Indulgence
Cheat meals are a hot topic among bodybuilders, and Nick Walker’s preferences offer a glimpse into his balanced approach to diet.
Despite his rigorous training and strict diet, Walker doesn’t shy away from indulging in his favorite cheat meal: a burger. If weight wasn’t a concern, Walker would often head to Five Guys.
However, during Olympia preps, he prefers the cleaner options at Barry’s Steakhouse.
“I like burgers. I want a burger [for cheat meals]. He knows I’m not going to eat like an asshole but you know, normally, like I said, for the prep for the Olympia, we went to Barry’s Steakhouse, we ate a lot of food but it was clean so it didn’t really fuck with you versus and I would only gain like a pound but if I went to Five Guys and ate as I did at Barry’s I’d gain like eight pounds,” Walker shared.
This strategic indulgence allows Walker to enjoy his meals without compromising his physique’s progress.

Training Preferences: Blood Volume and Boot Camp Style
Nick Walker’s training philosophy centers around maximizing blood volume in the muscles.
“I don’t do a lot of drop sets but I am all about blood volume. I like to get as much blood into the muscle as possible,” Walker said.
This technique not only enhances muscle pump but also ensures optimal nutrient delivery and muscle growth.
In preparation for the 2024 Mr. Olympia, Nick Walker has relocated to Florida with his coach Matt Jansen.
Here, he’s adopted a Kevin Levrone boot camp-style training routine, inspired by the legendary bodybuilder who often secluded himself to focus intensely on his Olympia preparations.
This rigorous and disciplined training approach is designed to prepare Nick Walker’s body for the ultimate showdown later this year.
A Controversial Stance on Ozempic
Nick Walker’s views on the weight loss drug Ozempic have sparked conversation in the bodybuilding community. He dismisses the drug as unnecessary, advocating instead for a traditional, disciplined approach to dieting.
“I’m not a fan. I’ve never used it. I don’t know anything about it. I think it’s pointless. I think if you can’t diet hard, you suck,” Walker stated bluntly.
His stance reflects his belief in hard work and discipline as the cornerstones of bodybuilding success.
