🏆 Who Is Farouq Ishimoto?
Farouq Ishimoto is a Men’s Physique professional from Japan who competes in the board-shorts division judged on shape, symmetry, conditioning and stage presence.
He is a quiet technician who lets scorecards do the talking. No hype, no viral moments — just a long line of top-five finishes across Japan, Taiwan, China, Korea, Thailand and the United States.
Alongside fellow Japanese Olympians such as Jo Uezato, he has helped make Japan one of the strongest nations in the division.
🌱 The Early Pro Years (2021–2022)
Ishimoto’s recorded pro career begins on November 20, 2021, when he placed 2nd at the IFBB Japan Pro — an outstanding result for a pro debut.
He was already an IFBB Pro by that date. One detail from older profiles needs correcting: pro cards are not awarded at pro shows, so nobody “earns a card” by placing at the Japan Pro — he arrived there as a professional.
In 2022 he placed 9th at the Tokyo Pro in August, then improved to 3rd at the Japan Pro in November, behind winner Jinbo Li and Renyi Xie.
Two seasons, two podiums in Tokyo — the foundation of his career was set. 💪
🔥 2023: The First Pro Win
The 2023 season started steadily: 5th at the District of Fengshan Kaohsiung Pro in Taiwan in July, and 5th at the Japan Pro on November 26.
One week later came the breakthrough. On December 3, 2023, Ishimoto won the Taiwan Pro in Kaohsiung — his first professional title. 🏆
He beat pre-show favourite Bong Seok Choi of South Korea, with India’s Lovepreet Singh third. Fellow Japanese pro Junpei Taguchi placed fifth in the same lineup.
The win qualified him for the 2024 Mr. Olympia — the biggest stage in bodybuilding.
🎯 2024: The Olympia Debut
Ishimoto made his Olympia debut in Las Vegas on October 12, 2024, finishing in the tied-16th group in a field of more than sixty Men’s Physique athletes.
BarBend’s prejudging report placed him in the fifth callout — respectable company for a first Olympia, in the contest won by Ryan Terry.
He closed 2024 with two more podiums in December: 3rd at the Huanji China Pro 2, then 2nd at the Taiwan Pro 2 a week later. 🥈
🏅 2025: A Perfect Score in Seoul
Ishimoto opened 2025 with 5th place at the Thailand Pro on June 7, behind winner Tyler Smith.
Two weeks later, on June 21, 2025, he won the World of Monsterzym Korea Pro in Seoul — with a perfect score from the judges. 🏆
Mongolia’s Ganaa Altankhuyag was second and China’s Xie Hang third. It was Ishimoto’s second pro win and his second Olympia qualification.
At the 2025 Mr. Olympia in October he again finished tied 16th, then stayed busy: 5th at the Shawn Ray Hawaiian Classic Pro in Hawaii, and 2nd at the Japan Pro on November 24, 2025.

🟢 Farouq Ishimoto in 2026: Active — and Still Winning
Ishimoto is an active IFBB Pro, and 2026 has been one of his busiest seasons: five shows across three continents.
He opened the year by winning the Taiwan Pro on April 3, 2026 — his third pro title, which qualified him for his third straight Mr. Olympia. In the interest of accuracy: NPC News Online’s official results for that April show list him as the division’s only entrant, so it was a very different kind of win from his hard-fought titles in 2023 and 2025.
He then took his campaign to the United States, placing 3rd at the Los Angeles Grand Prix Pro (behind Emerson Costa and Dan Ibrahim) and 3rd again at the St. Louis Pro a week later.
In September he was 2nd at the Hong Kong Pro, behind Li Xiaolong — then flew to Las Vegas for the 2026 Mr. Olympia on September 26.
There, in a contest won by Ryan Terry — with Brazil’s Edvan Palmeira sixth — Ishimoto finished in the tied-16th group for the third straight year, wearing competitor number 22.
Three straight Olympia appearances, three straight finishes in the tied-16th group. The next step in his career is clear: turn those trips into a place inside the top 15.
Away from the stage, he also gives back: younger Japanese physique athletes credit him as their coach on their own profiles. There is no retirement announcement from Ishimoto, and no report of one — he remains one of Japan’s most active pros. 💪
